All is well. I am the nurse anesthetist on this mission. We have about 49 cases behind us and safely escorted through anesthesia and surgery in a very spartan environment. It is much like the Iquitos, Peru setting the Drs Lynn Martin and Robert Groshek participated in a few years ago. Flies and mosquitos are everyday occurranes in the OR, no oxygen failures, but multiple electrical failures. We even had a live lizard and of course dead cockroaches and active ants with the children’s sandy feet. The sibling groups (coming for circumcisions) remind me of the stories of the families in the fifties coming in for tonsillectomies!!! Infection control is a constant challenge. It is a tropical environment with all the issues that entails. It is with thanks for all your prayers that we humbly make this journey. This truly is a serious miracle with the resources we have and seek safe travel through the next two surgical days. God bless all of you!!
