Our team has recently completed four 3-hour orientation sessions. We have learned about Ethiopian culture, politics, history of Ethiopia, geography, Amharic language basics, medical overview, etc. The nurses have also had a refresher course on surgical techniques. Our immunizations are up-to-date; now we are busy packing our two bags with additional supplies for Project Mercy. We leave Thursday at noon from the La Crosse Airport. We will be flying to Amsterdam from Minneapolis. From Amsterdam we go to Nairobi, Kenya to get to Addis Ababa, Ethiopia at 4am Saturday morning. Project Mercy has a school with 1500 students, a hospital and clinic, a children’s home, an experimental fruit and vegetable garden. We will be doing surgery and working in the hospital and clinic. In addition, we will be helping at the school—assisting with teaching and tutoring. Some on our team will be teaching sewing classes as well as mending and completing some sewing projects.
