Another couple fabulous days in Africa! Yesterday we spent the day on a boat on the Rufiji River observing hippos who bop in and out of the water like a game of whack-a-mole. They would poke their heads out of the water and look at us. If you didn’t know it, you would think they were gentle animals. We then traveled up river towards the gorge. We saw yellow baboons, blue monkeys and crocodile no bigger than a large iguana. We also learned about trees, birds but really just enjoyed being on the river in February. We felt right at home. We finished our day with a sunset boat cruise on the river. Good friends and good company were a great way to end the day. Especially when we found ourselves face-to-face with a 8 foot crocodile! So cool!
Today we spent in an open vehicle – Range Rover- on the search for animals. We saw elephants, giraffes, zebras, warthogs, baboons, impalas, african buffalo, water buck, bee eaters (birds) that followed the truck, but the most memorable part of the day was being able to watch six lions rest under a bush only feet away from our vehicle. At one point a lion came out of the bush and walked towards our vehicle, although it was scary we soon found out she just left her comfortable bush to go to the bathroom.
The three of us have agreed this has been a life changing event, a once in a lifetime and feel such gratitude to all our family and friends for your support and encouragement! We miss you all but will see you soon! Tomorrow begins our long journey home.
